Use the supplier’s stated tons-per-cubic-yard value whenever possible. If it supplies tons per compacted cubic yard, do not add the same compaction allowance twice. Tell the supplier your finished dimensions and intended compacted depth so it can check the order.

- Measure several widths and depths. Driveways are rarely perfect rectangles; divide irregular areas into sections.
- Plan drainage first. Standing water and poor crown can undermine even a generous gravel order.
