Area = length × width. Volume = area × depth, with inches converted to feet and extra material added last. Concrete volume is shown in cubic yards. Asphalt volume is converted to tons using the editable density. Regional ranges adjust broad material-only planning prices using state-level goods-price data; any labor amount comes only from the rate you enter.
Worked example
A 40 × 12 ft driveway at 4 in deep with 10% extra needs about 6.52 cubic yards of concrete. At the U.S. average material range used by CalcCaddy, that is roughly $913–$1,174 before delivery, tax, base work, reinforcement, or labor.

Material ranges and regional adjustments follow the documented CalcCaddy pricing methodology. Geometry uses standard volume conversion. Asphalt defaults to 145 lb/ft³ as an editable planning density; the mix producer’s value should replace it when available.
Frequently asked questions
Does the regional range include installation?
Only if you enter a labor allowance. The regional model adjusts the material component; your labor amount is added unchanged and shown separately.
Does the calculator recommend driveway thickness?
No. It calculates from the depth you enter. Soil, base, climate, vehicle loads, material design, and local requirements determine an appropriate section.
Why might a contractor quote be higher?
A complete project can include excavation, hauling, aggregate base, compaction, forms, reinforcement, drainage, joints, sealing, mobilization, permits, taxes, and contractor overhead.
